HOW IT WORKS
The Lions offer individuals in the City of Rochester an opportunity to show their pride and patriotism by displaying the American Flag in front of their homes on five (5) holidays per year. These flags will be purchased and the poles attached and assembled by Lions members.
Subscription donations will be sold by Lions at a cost $40 each year. For each charitable subscription donation, the Lion volunteers will place a 3' by 5' American flag on a 10 foot pole in front of the home on five national holidays: Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, and Veteran's Day.
The flag pole will be inserted into a receptacle (15 inch long aluminum tubing) that the Lions Club has placed on the boulevard in front of each subscriber’s house. This receptacle will be inserted flush with the ground level so that it will not be a hazard for tripping or lawn equipment. It will be located approximately 24 inches from the curb directly in line with the front door of the residence.
Lion volunteers deliver flags at dawn and retrieve them at dusk. The home owner does not have to be present. The Lions are responsible for replacement of any flag that is soiled, damaged or stolen as well as storing the flags throughout the year. It also will apply, pay for and annually maintain the City permit for this placement
At the point where the amount of subscriptions increase beyond our ability to handle the placement with our members, we will form a partnership with local youth and/or other organizations to enlist their help and in return we will contribute funds to their organization.
